In Loving Memory of our Best Friend and Father
We Love you Dad
Dorothy, Dawson & Darla
I want to talk to you about my dad. He was my best friend, my bandmate, my good time charlie. We spent many nights together just talking, listening and playing music, hanging out and having a good time. We would be in the band house rocking out and in those moments we were just friends, he was just one of the guys. He supported my dreams of being a rock n’ roller. While he didn’t always understand all of my music he was supportive anyways. He supported my dreams of being a working musician because he was one too. He put me through the school of rock because he loved me, he loved all of us.
Dad, throughout his years, was a working musician playing in bands around the country and especially in Orlando. He was so many things, an artist, a poet and for a time even an oil rigger. To me, it seemed he had been every kind of person you could be. He was poor, he was rich, he was strong, he was famous. Even the clerk at CVS remembers his band the Corvettes! He made a lot of friends here in Florida and every one of them remembers him fondly. That can only mean one thing - Florida loved dad too.
My dad the roofer spent a lot of years up on roofs and he did it to support us kids. He was strong, he was a bear. He was built hall tough. I know I was close to my dad because I am also built hallI tough…..and despite my best efforts I might also have become a roofer. I always felt really close to dad and sometimes I even find some of his mannerisms in myself. Like him, I also have unique choices in clothing styles and have a dislike for going to bed and actually 'in the bed'. He is also definitely the reason I am a porch cat and have a love of midnight snacks. I am my father's daughter, no question about it.
I love my dad he was so special to me and I never could help but love him with all my heart. He, of course, had the biggest of hearts and never wanted to see any of us sad or upset. He had a lot of love to give and shared it willingly. I love my dad. I will never forget being a little girl and going through his closet, grabbing his work shirts and stretching out the necks by wearing them around my waist, as a skirt. His shirts never did fit him right after that. He was my best friend, my good time charlie. He was my hero and He still is. We love you dad. - Dorothy Hall
